Childbirth c-section costs account for 45% the $79 billion the United States spends on hospital charged for childbirth a year. Do you realize that while in the greater part of Europe midwifes attend almost 75% percent of all births, in USA and Eastern Europe, c-section are on the rise.
Many women are having elective c-section, because of their fear of the pain during childbirth. Doctors are recommending c-section even to low-risk pregnant women, because it is easier, shorter, predictable and better paid. Moreover, more and more obstetricians are trained to better perform a c-section than to assist a natural birth. How many natural births can you assist simultaneously, and how many c-section can you fit consecutively in your schedule? It is clear that it is clearer and logical for the doctor in a hospital to choose pre-arranged c-section, than unexpected natural births.
Few women know that c-section is 10% more dangerous than natural birth, if it is not really needed. It is a surgery and has its side-effects. Few women realize that the pain after the c-section, the time to recover and the problems to occur are much more enervating, energy sucking and time consuming from your being back to normal than natural birth.
C-section is often elective for women who have not researched well their options. Unfortunately, once you have a c-section it is much more difficult to experience natural birth, VBAC is possible, but you need to fight harder for this option, than if you just opt in in the beginning.
