A midwife with 34 years of practices shares her statistics and says that she has never had 3- and 4- degree tears (childbirth rip tear) in more thab 4000 births she assisted.
Giving birth at home with a midwife makes it possible to follow the natural and unique process of your body giving birth. Tears are often a result of fear and pushing when the time has not come for that. Even though tears are possible, at home they are minor. During my third unassisted birth I have found that I had a very minor tear of the perineum which healed on its own. The head of the baby was big and hard. It has a very small fontanela.
I felt the baby half in my hands and wanted it to get out as quickly as possible. I new that the perineum has stretched much. I believe it could not stretch more and I just decided that with a push, the baby will be out. I wanted it more than anything.
Probably if I had decided to wait a little longer, it might have stretched a little more, but I just wanted the baby out.
So after the birth I found, that there was a tear It was small -- probaby not more than 2-3 cm. -- 1-2 inches. And listen what a midwife says who has witnessed more than 4000 births
