Conscious Pregnancy and Childbirth

The Joy of Conscious Childbirth
The Joy of Conscious Childbirth
When a woman is aware of her natural ability to give birth and trusts her body, childbirth is an ecstacy. In pregnancy and childbirth is the seed of the female path to God. Photo by Raphael Goetter, courtesy of Flickr.com

Pregnancy and childbirth for me are a revelation. I found it intuitively coming to me, as a spiritual path to self-realization. This is the beginning of conscious parenting.

In pregnancy and childbirth is the seed of the female path to God. It is deeply rooted in our bodies and transforms us at the most intimate level. The elevation of spirit is a unique dance of the body, mind and spirit. Total acceptance, not renunciation, makes us percieve under the veil of illusion the secret flows of love, empowerment, creativity and self-expression.

Preganancy and childbirth brings us closest to nature and mother Earth, making us aware of our lost connection with the life on the whole planet. We feel the common vibration of life and the wonder of creation.

Diving deep into ourselves we can rediscover the wealth of creative power within which is all powerful and transforming.

There are milliards of ways to the source of awareness and the soul, many of them are so near to us as the beat of our heart. Women are blessed with the chance to experience the transition from spirit to life in their bodies and to become conscious mediators for the healing of the Earth.

In my first pregnancy this awareness of the spiriualiy of life was brought to me through my daughter. I felt guided to natural unassisted childbirth and utterly supported by the soul of my daughter and the spiritual teachers. They were present as energy beings and encouraged me to trust my body and the spirit of love and life in childbirth. Cleansed my body and showed me ways of energy healing to eliminate any pain in the last month of pregnancy and to experience completely painless birth.

For quite a time I did not share my experience with anyone. Only in individual conversations when I was asked about my birth and the person wanted to know more, I told them the story.

As time passed I shared it with more and more mothers and encouraged them to give birth naturally without medication. Some of them chose a hospital birth, because of previous c-section or a breech position of the baby, but later realized that a home birth would be much better. I believe that each mother should take responsibility for her choice. The level of psychological comfort is the most important. Personally, I am convinced that the current state in most hospitals is fear-stricken, slows the birth process and makes it more painful.

Birth is in its essence a meditation, a prayer, an act of the creative self. It requires quite place and freedom, special attunement and uninterruption. The atmosphere is crucial for the mother to be able to listen to her body, to bond with the baby and follow the rythm of nature within.

Pregnancy and childbirth as a spiritual path to higher awareness, personal freedom and healing - this is my experience, which I want to share with you. We all carry the potential of reawakening to the truth within, which can be the first step for personal liberation. I have learned a lot form mothers before me on the same path - Laura Shanley, Jeannine Parvati, Rachana.

I believe that as we share our unique experiences we contribute to the creation of a morphous field of love, acceptance, integrity and wholeness.

This is a site I start after a probing long-delayed quest in my soul about what really matter to me, to my life, to my loved ones, to the world.

Yes, challenges are eveywhere - the path of conscious choice of birthing, parenting, family life, work and education is not an easy - because it takes courage, but it is essentially easier and much more enjoyable than anything you can imagine, once you trust yourslef and the universe.

Childbirth Resources

Spiritual Midwifery Book

The classic book on home birth is now available in a new edition, with updated information on the safety of natural childbirth, new birthing stories, and the most recent statistics on births managed by The Farm Midwives. Included are stories of working with Amish women, shedding light on a different culture with a similar appreciation for natural childbirth. Ina May also provides new information about potentially dangerous techniques routinely used in hospitals during and after birth, as well as the latest findings about VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). Improved instructions for handling breech births are also given. When the first edition of Spiritual Midwifery was published in 1976, it introduced an entire generation of young women to the possibility of home birth and breast feeding. It also breathed new life into the all-but-vanished field of midwifery.
