have made technology an intervention necessary for all - in order
to protect the few - all were advised to go through the medicalized
delivery. And the complications grew, because birth was treated as
a complex, unpredictable, scary and close to death.
Statistics show that after the second world war, with
the increase of qualified birth attendants, the birth mortality fell
in Western Europe. However, the birth mortality decreased in Norway,
the Netherlands and Denmark, where midwives close to the home and
attending home births were trained in medical procedures, while in
Great Britain and USA, where the hospital was the place for women
to go to give birth, mortality rate did not decrease considerably.
Such statistics clearly speak of the importance of the
home setting for a mother to feel safe and secure and to experience
birth in the best way possible.
