Natural childbirth at home -- a midwife who has assisted 5000 birth, has a surprising statistics -- she never lost a baby. Does not it say something about the safety of home birth?
Natural childbirth at home was common in Bulgaria just 70 years ago. It is still the predominant way of giving birth in the world. However, in the western society homebirth was banned by law, midwives were chased. Yet those who still practice and keep statistics testify that homebirths are safer than hospital births. Why?
The main reason is that the home is the natural place to birth. To give birth a woman needs privacy, security, comfort and ease. She needs to trust the people she is surrounded with. She needs to trust her own body and her caregiver. The figure of the midwife is like a mother, a supporter, an empathic companion in the passage to motherhood.
