"I feel that even well-meaning advice and monitoring interferes with the delicate physiological process. Any professional brings their own bias & self-interests (ie. policies or fear of lawsuits.) I am very sensitive to the presence& energy of others & I felt a MW would distract me from the needs of my baby& my body. In short, i felt the process was safest without interference after studying complications and with plans for a hospital transfer in case of emergency.
That's not to say I think every woman or every birth is best off Unassisted. I have a great respect& admiration for midwifery & other professionals. I just don't feel they are necessary at every birth."
She has not used any meds.
How did they cut the cord at home?
They cleaned everything with betadine (one of the most popular antiseptics. It contains 10% providone-iodine. It is antimicrobial, germ killing antiseptic). They cut the cord with string and cut it with scissors.
How did she prepared for giving birth unassisted?
She has read as many birth stories as she could find. This helped her feel prepared to handle a wide variety of situations.
