Watching
vaginal childbirth videos, especially the ones of women giving birth
at home in a birthing pool, you might think that they were lucky. "They
are pregnancies are without complications. They have a midwife or a
caregiver who is competent and skilled at homebirths. They are courageous
and the baby is in the right position. But I am not in this situation.
My husband or obstetrician would not let you give birth at home. What
am I going to do if there is a complication? I don't want to be responsible
if there is a problem and something happens to the baby."
I have heard these comments from many women when I
was telling them the stories of my homebirths. The truth is that women,
you see in the vaginal childbirth
videos, are not any luckier, nor are they more fit than the average
woman. To have childbirth that is successful and fulfilling is no
more difficult than childbirth of pain that you want to forget about.
Women having ecstatic childbirth are distinguished by the fact that
they have chosen to do the things that will make them successful.
Not just in the big decision, but also the every day, moment-by-moment
decisions about their thoughts, fantasies, nutrition, exercises which
make up the bulk of living.
Your childbirth depends on the choices you make, not
chances. What choices are you making?
Childbirth is not an isolated event in life. It reflects
on all your future choices, because it shapes your whole personality,
self-esteem, womanhood. The experience of childbirth has a specific
mark on your relationships with your children and partner. It affects
your life purpose, goals, and direction.
You can choose your thoughts that will bring you closer
to the desired birth experience, or refuse to take the responsibility.
The choice is up to you, and it will make all the difference in the
world.
