In my own experience the third phase was painless. My body knew how to do it. The position I took was the best for the birth and made it easy for the baby to slip through the birth canal.

Giving birth is the most amazing, incredible thing a woman can do. The mother and her primitive instincts are going to push the baby out. A mother's body knows exactly what it needs to do (even if the mother's mind doesn't).

Women giving birth at home unassisted testify that if the mother and baby are healthy and have all the necessary prenatal care and the mother is fully educated on labour and birth, a home birth is a wonderful empowering experience.
